Published over a year after the author`s death in late 2003, this historical mystery is the 11th and final entry in a series starring Sir John Fielding, a blind 18th-century magistrate based on the real-life founder of London`s first official police force, the Bow Street Runners. After Lord Lammermoor apparently commits suicide by jumping off Westminster Bridge, Sir John and his assistant Jeremy gather evidence that the man may in fact have been a victim of the deadly hypnotic skills of Mr. Goldsworthy, a popular mesmerist whose patron is the deceased`s own wife.
